The University of Salford
Currently the only University to have a presence at MediaCityUK, the University of Salford’s MediaCityUK campus is a space designed to encourage creativity, innovation and collaboration between academics, students, professionals and industry. With a vision to create an innovation led academic ecosystem that is transdisicplinary, and nurtures the development of talent for the creative, media and technology economies. The University is pleased to be coordinating DE2013: Open Digital, and host a number activities at the state-of-the-art facilities.
BT has been a long standing supporter of the annual Digital Economy conference, and is actively involved with DE research. This year BT bring their Vehicle for Change to the MediaCityUK piazza, open to delegates throughout the conference and continuing to run until Fri 8 Nov. BBC North has been established as a substantial creative centre in the North of England; a truly digital hub to create content for local, regional, national and global audiences, broadcast on radio, television, online and mobile. With the idea to make BBC North the benchmark for a new BBC – one which was better connected, technologically agile, more collaborative, open and transparent. A BBC for the digital age. The ambition is to engage more closely with audiences, especially those in the North, to serve them better both in terms of the media produced and the way it’s produced. Three divisions – BBC Children’s, BBC Sport and BBC Radio 5 live – are now based and managed from BBC North, accounting for over 800 of the 2,500+ staff. In addition there are the teams delivering BBC Breakfast, Current Affairs, six of the BBC’s online products, including the BBC Homepage, the Design and Engineering teams behind BBC iPlayer on mobile and ipTV, BBC R&D, BBC Learning, Marketing & Audiences, Religion & Ethics, Entertainment, and 6Music, Regional News and BBC Radio Manchester – plus the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. BBC North is not just an “outpost” in the North of England. It is a truly integrated mainstream part of the BBC.
The Landing at MediaCityUK is a truly unique space, spanning over 7 floors and 53,000 square feet. It is a revolutionary digital hub where SMEs can work alongside large media and technology organisations to drive product efficiency and new processes. The Landing combines business and social space, studios/labs, a stunning media lounge, screening room and conference facility. DE2013 delegates will have the opportunity to continuing networking and discuss the events of the conference with exclusive access to the private members club at the end of the second day on Tue 5 Nov.
